Leadership Spotlight
What do you love about this industry?
This is such a diverse and dynamic community of leaders, and we have fun doing our jobs. Just as important, we have a tremendous impact on local and state economies. This industry gives so much back to the communities where we operate.
Why did you pursue a job in this industry?
Growing up, I lived in Norway, Holland, and Trinidad and Tobago. These experiences opened my eyes to what travel was all about.
Who has been a waymaker for you?
I give credit to Deborah Sexton, former President and CEO of PCMA and our Foundation. She invited me to get involved in PCMA, and has been a true ally and an active resource for me. I also give credit to Meredith Rollins, our Executive Director, for elevating our level of professionalism. You can see these waymakers’ impact reflected in the success of our fundraising this year.
What advice would you give to someone coming into this field?
Do what you love and success will follow.
What’s been your sweetest victory?
Achieving record fundraising success in 2017, and overseeing the giving of $493,000 in grants and scholarships.
Professional Motto:
No limits. In this industry especially, there’s no limit to where you can go.
Leadership Super Power:
My willingness to take on big challenges, to understand and engage in the political arena to support our industry. I’m willing to step up and take a difficult position. The way I see it, no risk, no eward. For example, I fought hard against the bathroom bill in Texas, which would have hurt our economy and industry. And we won.
Inspiration:
I’m inspired when I see how positive action can transform lives.
